PRO PROFILE: Terry Rinker
December 07, 2012
It’s difficult to imagine there could be any more races left to win for Terry Rinker this year. The Team AMSOIL veteran just capped one of the most decorated seasons any racer has ever enjoyed, capturing the APR Superleague Championship, the U.S. Formula One P.R.O.P Series Championship, three APBA National Championship Titles and three APBA National High Point Championships. On top of that, Rinker established five straightaway records in the #10 Blackhawk/Rinker Racing tunnel boat. Since entering the sport in 1978, Rinker has literally written the record books.
Now, he’s just completed a new challenge. Rinker traveled halfway around the world to compete in the final two races of the UIM F1 World Championship Series. The Tampa, Fla. native received an invitation from the Qatar Marine Sports Federation and its Team Manager, Khalid Al Kuwari, to join the Qatar Team to close the season. Rinker teamed with series points leader Alex Carella November 30 for the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, where he finished eighth and earned three valuable points for the team. Rinker showed his brilliance during the series finale December 7 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, riding hard for 33 laps to finish second. “It was a wonderful experience coming here in filling in as a driver for the outstanding Qatar Team,” said Rinker. “I am overjoyed with the drive and working with so many fellows I know back home, including my radioman and old partner in Brendan Power. Got the job done and had fun doing it at the same time. That’s what it is all about.” Despite competing in just two races, Rinker vaulted to eighth place in the points standings. Rinker’s black #10 boat emblazoned with the AMSOIL logo will again hit the water back in the United States next spring. Stay tuned to www.amsoilracing.com for coverage.
